Until this week, out here on the farm we prepared for 100+ temperatures almost everyday of the week. Not only has this been hard on us, but the steady hot temperatures coupled with the lack of rain make it quite strenuous for the produce. You’ve probably noticed that the quantities at market have been steadily decreasing, but know this is normal this time of year.
Not much grows this time of year, which is why last week was the last CSA pickup for two months. Our farm needs this time to spruce up the crops as the cooler temperatures herald the return of the beloved greens. Now that the rains are returning, this makes planting difficult. The weather extremes here in Central Louisiana are truly challenging.
The whole idea of Community Supported Agriculture lies in the name. We persevere through the heat of the summer, investing in our customers, by readying the fields for the fall. In return we ask that you invest in us, so that we can continue to thrive during the fiscally barren months.
Our next CSA session begins in October, and though it is a couple months away, your deposit and membership now provides us with the capital necessary to make it through the down times like we are experiencing now. Also, you can enjoy a 10% discount on all produce purchased at market from now through the remainder of the year.
Your early share purchases are literally the water that hydrates us during the drought. You are our backbone, and are as important to local food, this community, and to our farm as we (the farmers) are. Once again, as always, we thank you so much for your continued supported.
We want you to know that because of your support of Inglewood, you are propelling a farm that is leading the way in organic, local foods in Central Louisiana; making you the catalyst in change, providing healthy food options for local residents.
